Etna is an ideal place for off-piste skiing. In fact, there are many itineraries that the freerider skier can discover in contact with the most unexplored corners. The charm of the volcano, the beauty of the views, the sea just a few steps away, the variety of itineraries make our volcano a destination full of attraction. Furthermore, Etna with its current 3357 meters (variable!) altitude and the numerous channels that unravel from the summits offers an excellent variety of itineraries. It is strongly recommended to rely on expert people because "A' Muntagna" (as the Etna people call it) is a real mountain with its peculiarities and dangers linked to the snow-covered volcanic environment. EtnaSci offers excursions dedicated to skiers of different technical levels, who wish to learn the secrets of the volcano by tackling only the most evocative climbs and descents, far from the ski slopes or tourist routes, obviously guided by a qualified professional who is an expert in the area. Our tours include ski mountaineering itineraries with climbing skins which do NOT require the use of specific mountaineering equipment (ropes, ice ax or crampons) with differences in height ranging from 600 to 1300 m+ depending on the group's training. The possible use of ski lifts to facilitate the ascent can be agreed upon.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
The excursion may undergo variations depending on weather conditions or civil protection forecast at the sole discretion of the organization and/or guide. Due to the high altitude and the physical effort required, this excursion is absolutely NOT permitted for people with heart conditions or any other physical condition unsuitable for hiking. For people over 50, a preventive cardiological examination is recommended.
Freeride skiing and ski touring are sporting activities that require physical commitment and a good basic skiing level. Therefore, the activities promoted on this page are aimed exclusively at expert skiers, who already have experience in these disciplines and know how to handle skis on various slopes and with different terrain conditions (fresh snow, ice, etc.). Through our snow report we provide information on the state of snow. See following links.
In case of ski renting we suggest to bring your boots (only with Dynafit pin system).

Itinerary
Our excursion to the summit craters by ski touring is designed to give you the best visit experience considering less exposure to volcanic risk conditions. Our itineraries takes place on different sides of Etna, depending on the snow condition, and is led by ski instructors and expert guides authorized by the Italian government and covered by insurance policies, equipped by radio and GPS devices. IMPORTANT: our ski touring excursions are not mountaineering ascents. Therefore crampons, ice axes and ropes are NOT used. For this type of activity we can provide a high mountain guide.
